Broad River Genealogical Society Shelby North Carolina

New Meeting has been changed to the American Legion Post 80, located at 1628 South Lafayette St. Shelby NC.

The purposes of the Society is to preserve area records and to disseminate genealogical and historical information through book publishing, educational meetings, occasional genealogical classes and guidance for the public, and a bulletin published quarterly. This quarterly magazine “Eswau Huppeday“, which translates as “land between the rivers” and refers to the territory between the Cherokee & Catawba Indian Nations, contains over 250 pages of historical and genealogical information each year.

Monthly Meetings

  • Meetings are at 3:00 pm on the second Sunday of each month except June, July, and August meetings are held at the American Legion Post 80, located at 1628 South Lafayette St. Shelby NC.
  • Everyone interested in local history or wanting to learn about their heritage and lineage are welcome. You do not have to be a member to attend.
  • May is reserved for “Heritage Day” and will be held at our Archives Building.

BRGS – What we do

  • Collect historical and genealogical materials at our Archive.
  • Assist people with genealogical research.
  • Produce and sell books, maps & materials.
  • Look up information and obituaries.
  • Have guest speakers at our monthly meetings.
  • Have programs on local history.
  • Never charge people for our help, but we do accept donations.
